The Hoka Mafate line was created in homage to the Cirque de Mafate region, a mountainous, isolated, and rugged area on Réunion Island (a French territory in the Indian Ocean). It is one of the most challenging trail locations in the world — inspiring Hoka to design a shoe that delivers extreme cushioning, exceptional traction, and total stability.

The Mafate Speed 4, launched in 2022/2023, is the direct evolution of the line for trail runners tackling extreme terrains and long distances. It combines cutting-edge technology in cushioning, traction, and lightweight performance.
